A game of foosball is a race to 5 points, so you should have 9 balls
for each game.

1.  To start the game, flip a coin to see who serves the ball first.
    After each point, the team that was scored on will serve the
    next ball.

2.  Passing.  The ball must first touch the playfield before it can
    be advanced.  If the ball stops, you must touch two men and the
    ball must be moving to be caught as a pass.  However, if you 
    wish to shoot, the ball does not have to touch two men.  YES,
    5 MAN SHOTS DO COUNT!  Also, there is a 10 second time limit on
    the 5 man rod.

3.  Scoring.  There is a 15 second time limit on the 3 man and the
    2 man rods.  All shots that enter the goal-even if they pop out
    will count as a point.  The only goal that does not count is a
    ball which is advanced by a spinning rod.

4.  Dead Ball.  If a ball stops anywhere on the table where it 
    cannot be reached by a player figure, it must be re-served by
    the team who served last, except for when the ball becomes dead
    behind the two man rods, it will be put back into play by that
    goalie player.

5.  Distractions.  Jarring the rods, lifting, or sliding the table 
    is not allowed.

These rules have been simplified for fun play, however these basic
rules do apply to the most serious of competitions.  When in doubt,
please refer to rules A-C for the most fun.

Re: Rule #1, it _is_ legal and indeed desirable to serve the ball
to yourself, by spin or angling the ball. The ball must strike the playfield
before being hit with a man.  See the long version of the rules for more 
details on this and other issues.
