Other Rants and Raves and Secrets to Life

Well some exciting finds in videos. I have heard that there's a foos table in the old movie The Color of Money (a Murrey or Murray brand) and maybe even a brief appearance in an old Sean Penn Ally Sheedy movie Bad Boys (1983) about juvenile prison. I also read a Danny DeVito interview where he mentions spending time on the set of the mental institution in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest playing foosball with Jack Nickolson between shots-- I don't know if it actually appears in the movie, however. I'll work on getting these video scenes, as well as scenes from X-Men, The Ninth Gate, and an ice skating special which depicts Todd Elridge as foosball ladder champ at his home ice arena.

I still have to work on getting more links up; I have dozens people have emailed me, as well as Boris' links.

The Japan Foosball Club minipage has some rudimentary Japanese in it now, I figured out how to do language encoding.

Okay, I'm thrilled becuase I just added the Nike commercial with foosball being played by Kevin Garnett(NBA) and Brandi Chastain (World Cup Soccer champion-in-sportsbra celebrant). It's kinda of creepy and funny at the same time. Muchos Mahalos to Bruce Nardoci for finding & sending me that video. He did it for free too!

I have a ton of new links to put up, but I've been too busy. Also, Boris emailed me across two oceans with a boatload of links too, so keep in touch, I'll get those new links up soon!

8/14/2000 FREE $5 -- not much, but I looked into it, and there are no strings attached, not a ripoff.

Now I will spam everyone. (sorry!) But consider: as a long-time Internet resident (late 80's before the Web), I'm very suspicious & disdainful of all those "get rich quick" or "beware of urban legend X" emails, so it's not sketchy at all.

You won't get rich, but I did find a way to make a measly $5 bucks, it's not much, but it's honest, so here it is, scroll past if you don't believe me. You won't be put on some mass mailing list, and you won't be paying a fee now or subscribing to some pay-a-fee program. It's really free of strings. It's a promotional $5 from an internet company.

Basically, it's a company that allows users to pay each other by their credit cards over the internet. For example, I use eBay auctions a lot. If you win my auction, and owe me $10, I would normally ask you, a stranger, to send me a cashier's check or money order, which costs extra, but gives security. With this company, PayPal, you can pay them by credit card, and they will pay me.

There are ***no*** extra fees. If you owe someone $10, all you pay is $10, there is absolutely no transaction fee. This makes it different from other pay-by-creditcard services I've seen, such as Billpoint.

Suspicious as I am, I knew they had to have some plan for making money... , so bleh! But they checked out fine!

They do make money, but in a rather harmless way, on your interest. Suppose I pay you $10 with my VISA card through Paypal. Your account at Paypal goes up by $10. At any time you can request your check from Paypal, although before that time, since they're holding the money, they earn interest on it, probably pennies. That's it.

You don't have to pay anybody anything! Just sign up, and there's currently a promotional free $5 free to anyone who signs up. NO SUBSCRIPTION TO ANYTHING, NO FEES NOW OR DOWN THE LINE, NO STRINGS! Just sign up and get the promotional $5. So sign up!

Saw the midnight preview screening of new X-Men movie! I was expecting a stupid comic-book-like movie, as dumb as the recent Batman incarnations, and voila I was surprised instead! The movie really went into what it would be like in the real world for people like this to deal with being a mutant (okay okay it's still a comic book) and how the outside world would naturally react. Tying in some historical roots for the characters to later turn to good or evil was cool, and the uneasy relationships between the characters was great, very X-Men for those long-term followers of the comic. Roger Ebert bemoaned the lack of payoff after too much setup, but I disagreed, the payoff was more satisfying with the setup, I actually cared what happened next. AND BONUS!!!! A SURPRISE FOOSBALL SCENE AT THE END!!! All right folks, that's it for the all-caps shouting, but I can't help shouting when I see foosball in a movie. And did y'all see The Ninth Gate, that occult movie with Johnny Depp? It had a short foosball scene too, in the backgorund of the restaurant after the big fire, but did it have the X-Men's Rob's Foosball Heaven Honorary Movie Quote of the Year? "Prove it!", followed by, "You're a dick!" then ... "oh, Okay."
